Cross Bay Walk

On Saturday 14th July 2012 a team of Bay Vets staff members completed the Cross Bay Walk in further aid of our 2012 nominated charity, North West Air Ambulance. Thankfully the sun was shining making the walk much more enjoyable for everybody taking part. The 11 mile walk started at Arnside and finished at Kents Bank. Due to recent bad weather, the original 8 mile route was extended to avoid quicksand, but took us through a wide channel of thigh deep water! The bigger dogs amongst the team enjoyed being able to swim through the channel although many smaller dogs had to be carried across by their owners. Despite a few trips and falls, everybody made it to Kents Bank safely with some very tired and muddy dogs. The team at Bay Vets Ltd would like to say a big thankyou to everybody who supported us and helped raise money for such a worthy cause!

Bay Vets Referrals

We are delighted with the response from local practices to our new referral service (for more information click here)

Some of you may have noticed the large lorry on our car park at Baldrand House recently. This was the MRI/CT Scanner Unit which is a real assest to our diagnostic imaging service but we were somewhat taken aback when one of our clients asked if we could scan her rather than her dog as she has been waiting several weeks for her appointment!

The Importance of an Annual Health Check

The need for getting your kitten or puppy vaccinated is commonly accepted and most owners are keen to get their new family member protected as soon as possible.  Vaccine manufacturers are increasingly stressing the importance of the first annual booster—twelve months after the primary vaccination course has been completed.  Annual booster vaccinations after this point are still necessary and you should review with your vet which vaccines need to be boosted each year, which will depend upon factors such as the local risk, the pets lifestyle and age—but there is no age at which the need to re-vaccinate automatically ceases.
