A vaccination is an injection that is given to kittens, puppies and baby rabbits to prevent them from catching nasty diseases. The process is relatively pain free and generally consists of 2 injections administered a few weeks apart.
In most cases your pet may require a booster vaccination. These are usually given once a year after an animal has been vaccinated to keep their immunity level as high as possible.
Puppies should have their first vaccination around 6-8 weeks of age and their second 3-4 weeks later. They can be vaccinated against:
Canine Parvovirus
Canine Distemper Virus
Infectious Canine Hepatitis
Leptospirosis
Canine Herpes Virus
Parainfluenza
Kennel Cough

Although getting a new pet can be extremely exciting, it can also be daunting. In some cases a baby animal requires almost as much care as a baby human. It’s important that you’re doing everything you can to give the new addition to your family the best start in life.
At Bay Vets we recommend that all puppies, kittens and young rabbits are brought in to see a member of our team once a month until they’re 6 months old. This is simply so that a veterinary professional can monitor your pet’s development as they grow. It also means that should any problems be spotted at an early stage, quick and successful treatment is more likely.
As well as making sure that your pet is healthy and happy at all times, seeing us regularly is a great way to get your pet used to a veterinary environment. This makes future visits far easier and stress free.
